YES I KNOW THAT.. If I called it shale kerogen it wouldn't make sense would i? I was referring to the product as a whole and 'it's entirety' is called SHALE OIL. Shale oil is a viable alternative to fossil fuels they just have to work on efficiency factors. If your refering? to growing biodiesel this is another valid option but you would probably need to develop a mega greenhouse to grow it all. The trick is producing more energy then is needed to refine it. Rules of thermodynamics apply

I'm not entirely sure what Country you live in so I can't respond to the amount of barrels produced a day. However, I will say most of Argentina's problem has to do with government policy not with the amount of reserves. There is no incentive for oil companies to look for reserves because of high export taxes, and the price caps on oil within the country make the problem even worse. Government policy has a? huge impact on production. More regulation/Gov. involvment results in less production.

Other countries are indeed looking for shale plays for oil and gas however it's been shown that this resource will be short lived just has north sea oil has been short? lived. Of course this expensive, unconventional oil and gas will help but it will never be able to replace the conventional oil and gas that is currently in decline.
