SN1 doesn't occur because the conditions require for the E1 reaction is heat plus the lone pair. E1 is favored at higher temperatures because it forms the strong C=C double bond which is more favorable than the? OH.

Can somebody explain why the SN1 reaction does not? occur. I thought that only stong bases were able to be involved in elimination reactions as they are powerful enough to take the hydrogen from the carbon hydrogen bond which is very stable. Can somebody please answer my question.

Yea but wouldn't that be the case if it was 2-butanol?? 1-butanol will not form a carbacation there for will not rearrange so it will result in one product which is 1-butene? ,, or will it rearrange ?? i think the reason why it produces both 1-? butene and 2-butene has to do with the major and minor products. check out zaitsevs rule. the video is on the right.

Is it the same with dehydration of alcohols?? This reaction is driving? me insane : 1-butanol with an acid gave us 1-butene AND 2-butene .. now shouldn't it result in the formation of 1-butene only because it's an E2( OH is on a primary C) reaction and it's unlikley for the rearrangments to happen ?? If you can answer me that I'll appreciate it :)

Don't take my word for it...but I think that does occur. I'm pretty sure E1 and SN1 reactions happen at the same time, competing with each other. Or, maybe the ethanol is too bulky to get at the carbocation. Those are my thoughts. I don't exactly know? what the answer is :l

It is true that the reagent is a strong base but another factor that affect E2 or SN2 is the actual size of the base. Now if we look at CH3O- is a very small molecule favoring SN2 reaction. An example of a base that favors E2 would be (CH3)3O- which is? a huge molecule in comparison to just CH3O-.

just an idea...im no expert infact im pretty stupid so hear me out......where as a normal bike uses a fan to reduce the heat ......could you not use? the fan as a dynamo....to recharge the battery's whilst its running......that would reduce the charge time and eventually mean that you could practically have a billion dollar invention....ie an everlasting battery..........oh by the way if it works and you become very rich .....remember me wont you ....i could use a few pounds :)

It's more like talking to someone who is well informed. I know you like Hydrogen, but do you know that hydrogen is produced by heating steam and natural gas to high temperatures? The Carbon in the natural gas combines with? the oxygen in the water to make carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Also the Hydrogen Honda that everyone points to as the future because batteries are too expensive... The fuel cell inside has over a million dollars worth of metal inside.

@snowyywwinters Well, It's hidrogen fuel cell cars, really! XP The only problem with those cars is that it has to have a huge tank with more than 3000 PSI of pressured hidrogen! Is built to be safe, Honda has crash tested it in extreme and very different ways, and it never exploded, the only problem is the space that's needed for the tank! XD I think Hidrogen Fuel Cell will be better? used in big vehicles, like trucks and buses! But yeah, Hidrogen vehicles are a great inovation and idea! ;)

@snowyywwinters Don't say that, because? if you're taking into account the CO2 produced to charge electric engines, than you should do the same to fuel engines, and believe me the CO2 produced to feed fuel engines is far superior! XD The greatest problem in electric vehicles is the storage of power, really! I'm hoping that we can start producing smaller and lighter batteries with more capacity of power storing, in very few years! XP

That isn't so. Electric motors are more efficient than IC's - where they fall over is in the batteries which can't? hold much more energy than a gallon of petrol (if you're lucky), so the range is pretty pitiful and they are insanely expensive. Still, that could change, although a large part of the problem is lack of imagination on the part of the EV industry as well as insane battery prices.

IMO, those aren't issues at all. Gorilla tanks are tight yet still work, but Empire and the rest aren't at all (I use an Empire peanut), so no issue with the ASA. I don't? know the issue with the feed neck either, but I don't use a lot of hoppers. I do know that it's a shake-n-bake with a standard gravity hopper. My beefs are mainly the barrel and the bolt engine, and those are just getting picky. Out of the box, they're far above average markers. Great purchase!

What's wrong with the feed neck again? Halo Invert & Dye Rotor hoppers fit just fine. Yeah, I agree with the rate selections. Great little marker right out of the box and is both a great starter marker or a back-up tourny kit with some parts. Wastes a lot of air IMO w/ stock bolt and the short barrel (autococker fit) is fine for front players. TechT? L7 bolt, Dye Hyper3 reg, and Ultralite 14" barrels wake this thing up. Others w/ high-end markers want to shoot it more.
