80 degrees won't affect the glue. I live in Tucson....it's 80 here in? the wintertime and my instruments are still in one piece. The glue that is used to hold stringed instruments together is called Hide Glue. It is soluble (meaning it melts) at 150 degrees fahrenheit (not 80) and when it comes in contact with water. Bachtoven1685 is correct when saying you can't keep an instrument in tune for more than 5 minutes in 17 degree winter temps. I doubt Perlman took his Strad out that day.

That's not at all what I was referring to as being lame. Mr Chan. I think it's lame how much money the USA spends on an inauguration. Why not put that money towards the tens of thousands of starving mouths in the USA alone. As for going up there and play - I'm a professional? musician, I have no qualms with performing.

your insistence that string instruments are unaffected by very cold weather is just pitiful. you say you played for 30 minutes straight outside? assuming it was very cold, you and your orchestra were out of tune in a? matter of minutes and you were too much of an amateur to recognize it.
