1080p is true HD, but it's only upscaled from about 720p. Most games these days are sub-720p and then upscaled to 1080p, there are some exclusives on the PS3 and X360 that have true HD, or are close? to it but there are very few of them. Watching Blu-Ray films are definitely True HD, there is no upscaling involved, the PS3 will read it directly off the disc and display it in the native 1080p.

The next generation isn't supposed to be out until the end of 2013, and there are a lot of good games you can buy right now seeming as this generation is coming to an end soon. It's better spending your money on a gaming PC that could play Battlefield 3? on ultra, but that costs a lot more (obviously) and you don't get the comfort of just throwing yourself down after a hard day of work/school. So I'd say it is worth buying, but it's up to you if you wanna wait a year or so.

thanks a ton. your tutorial really helped. My ps3 was a bit different. the cable at 4:17 was 3 times as small, and it was incredible hard to put back cuz of its position and lenght. the screws was really hard to unscrew too. it took around two hours but? it was worth it. paid 30 dollars for a laser instead of having to buy a whole new ps3.

nintendo didnt use this tech for the 3DS. the 3DS uses parraxial barriers and it does NO head tracking WHATSOEVER, as a matter of fact, if you move your head anywhere other than the 'sweet? spot' when using the 3DS you would lose the 3D effect.

you can forget about the motion controls ... unless they can actually implement it right... i've played on the wii and there's no single game that gives the right feeling. Stereoscopic 3D is also not that great ... polarized 3D is much better, but stereoscopic can be good enough in some cases. But what would? really be great would be mainstream availability and application for a head mounted display. :)

Good tute but missing a few things. 1) some PS3 have ribbon cables connected to the top case (mine did) don't do what I did an rip out the case an break it :(. 2) When putting together the disk drive (look at 2:57) MAKE SURE that in between the white thing on the left and grey thing on the right that the? two holes in the middle DO NOT have white showing!! If it does it means the protrusion isn't in properly and the drive will NOT spit out disks after you put one in there.

no, i'd like to correct Ownage32123, not all fat ps3's can ps1-ps3 games. i think only the first gen fat ps3's have backwards capability, by which i mean can play older games from previous systems. I think one way you can check which ones were the first gen consoles are if they have 4 usb ports on the front instead of 2 like later? versions and current ones do

I bought a direct cable that? plugs into the PS3 (like AV cables) and on the other end is a VGA cord, which goes into the monitor (monitor only has VGA plugin). It did not work, you will get a "Out of range" error; it will continue to display even if you reset the video output by holding the power button until you hear a second beep.
