Ok I need some help.I've been able to sharpen knives pretty sharp until relatively recently when using the same method they got duller and duller.I'm wonder if it could be bevel wear since it is extremely short now compared? to when it was new and if it is how can I fix it do I need to have a grind wheel to grind a new one on?should I just buy new knives?

There's a kind of sharpener that I? have seen that I would like your opinion about. It is basically a 'V' shaped 'knick' within a kind of handle, or other similar 'settings'. There are two blades, each on either side of the 'V', and the knife is sharpened by putting the blade in the 'V' so that it is horizontal (parallel to the ground); then you pull the handle of the knife towards you. The blades are apparently made of sub-micron carbide particles. Is this an efficient knife sharpener?

Wrong, sorry mate but I make (forge) knives and swords? and can make steels for Sharpening knives. The reason steels taper off at the end and why old ones dont have guards is because That is the direction you should be going. Tip of the knife leaves the steel at the tip of the steel. You are going backwards and laying down the cutting/sharpening fibers of the steel. I do demos at the market every saturday? and sharpen as well as sell knives. Been doing it for over 30 years the right way

Gosh im tired of this dude.... guys please if this guy forgot to say... always do it with the blade being wet or better with some olive oil and then you? clean it with a cloth! this is very important... its like to do it in clay you never fix a clay sculture when its dry.... even metal get a lil soft with some water even if its a very minimal porcent so this way you can mold the veins of the blade....

This is not technically sharpening since he's not removing steel from the edge. This is honing. Edge maintenance essentially. Instead of letting your knife get dull, you're realigning the edge which increases the lifespan of it. An essential step regardless? of what tools you use, but not really sharpening.

its called chromium oxide. they sell it in bars pretty cheap.? you rub it onto an untreated piece of leather. it makes for a verryyy sharp edge when youre finished. usually people use it for their wood carving tools or if you're a knife enthusiast like the man in this video seems to be... you can do it on your normal folding or fixed blades to maintain a razors edge.

I thought that all of the more expensive razor blades we buy have that additional strip above the blades on each head. I know you can buy really inexpensive ones with just the blades? like packs of 10 heads for $4 bucks. Which brand and type of razor do you use when shaving?

Can't say I've ever? tried it with razors having lubrication. It would most likely make sense to wait until the lub is gone before using the jeans.

hell, you dont even need to? use a leather belt if you dont have one, you can cut a piece of cardboard and use the edge of it the same way. obviously its not AS effective, but effective nonetheless

Thanks for the video, I'm happy that someone has finally put out correct sharpening information for others. Being a professional sharpener myself and having been trained as an old school apprentice carpenter, where correct sharpening was learned "or else", I can attest that this is the best way to get a good edge? that will remain a good edge.
