I listen to? metalcore, and other "screamo" genres...and I still have a LOT of respect for this kind of music. Not many of these rappers on the radio seem to have talent with instruments. Maybe great or catchy lyrics (I won't deny that,) but that doesn't make them talented in other aspects. I'm 16 and I mostly enjoy music that would be found in a mosh pit. With all due respect...liking or respecting classical music has absolutely NOTHING to do with looking down your nose at other genres.

I have to agree with you there...I'm actually into screamo genres; metalcore, hardcore, stuff like that. But, honestly, this is where all music came from. It dates back to ages not even thought about by some of today's best artists. Yeah, I hear people play "stupid ho" and Chief Keef (local? rap artist gaining a lot of fame) in class and I just shake my head.

I would absolutely expect children to enjoy this if they are raised with good music. One of the biggest barriers to classical music is the elitist snob attitude that classical music should be for the few, and the BS that you have to look down your nose at popular music (Lady GaGa) in order to be a 'real'? classical music lover. Classical music should be made assessable in school music programs and without the condescending music snob attitude. And I mean starting at a young age.

After reading these comments I think people tend to forget that these "contestants" opted to be on the show. It's not like the producers went out and found ugly people and forced them to participate in it. These people knew full well what they were getting into. Coaches and trainers are like that. I don't find anything sad about it. It's just an extension of what we already teach in our culture. You feel better about yourself when you look your best. While that's sometimes true, a lot of these performers are athletes who train very hard. If they were being abused they? would be unable to perform. This sport takes way too much strength to be the least bit unhealthy. the balletic quality in the performance is strong. it's just a different take on the music, just like how some people use Tchaikovsky music for gymnastics routines and contemporary dances. it's called artistic liberty.

I know swan lake is a ballet. I'm a ballet dancer myself :) but i? also know that swan lake is a music piece and a movie! all based of course on the ballet, but i wouldn't compare the cartoon-movie to the ballet, as i wouldn't compare this to the ballet. I don't think using Tchaikovsky's music in a circus-performance is plagerising his work (he made the music, not the choreography). Plagerising would mean that they took credit for the music. As of the choreography, they DID make original content.

This is an example of how far things have changed. No longer does anyone remember Swan Lake the ballet. Taking advantage of morphing the original intent of its creators into vaudeville is now what people think it is. High art is no longer respected. I? totally agree - Strictly speaking Radiohead are a technically better band, but people seem to have this obsession to prove Radiohead are better. I personally like both bands at different times and for different reasons, just because Coldplay have the mainstream popularity doesn't mean you have to bag them. i've been looking everywhere online for a really good interview of the mulleavy sisters about black swan, and this was better than i expected! amazing closeups to the costumes, they were phenomenal.? even though i saw some straps on the black swan costume, i heard they forgot to put straps on some the bodices, definite ballet no-no. i wish all high fashion designers would make ballet tutus, its a dying artform! i believe karl lagerfeld made some before :)
