It depends. You have the option of using GPS as OFFLINE or ONLINE. Using? offline will not incur data charges. But you will take longer to locate your position and your Point of Interests list will also be smaller. :)

Compass function work well in this one. the old ovi maps often automatically disengaged the compass for no apparent reason. it's one edge Ovi maps has over the Garmin. The Garmin Mobile XT need you to move in order to? get your bearing. Quite troublesome when one stop at the traffic light. the map goes haywire when in 3D or direction up mode.

You can use the? Nokia Maps Updater/Map Loader tool. Get it from the Nokia website, from the Explore Services section. It's the same place you get Nokia PC Suite from. It downloads all the maps, POIs etc, that you want, and puts them onto the phone from the PC via USB.

About the Viliv S5 UMPC. Does one really need a full blown Windows Vista computer just for GPS sat-nav? What's the battery life like on the Viliv? 2 hours at most? If one is going to use a separate device to the smart-phone for GPS sat-nav, might as well just get a dedicated TomTom or Garmin? or something.

Honestly google maps is still better? for me as it has a more comprehensive coverage. Some places are not registered under nokia maps at least in my country. Only thing i like about nokia maps is its turn by turn navigation and the ability to store maps inside the phone for offline navigation. That's where Nokia Maps Shine =)

I think Google Map do have a more up-to-date? streets and POIs and it does support offline caching (I won't say the most convenient way). watch?v=vSgcNTZ0afg And not mentioning the surprisingly accurate voice recognition to search and start navigation. Both almost equal since they both have their own strength and weaknesses.

es mejor el garmin mobile xt, por que los mapas de colombia son actualizados en todo momento, claro que cuesta, hay empresas en colombia que lo instala por 200.000 mil pesos, pero en internet hay explicaciones de como instalarlo desde la casa, el programa de GPS de nokia esta muy desactualizado, por lo menos n el norte de? bogota salen las antiguas direcciones, y a cambio el de garmin, salen las nuevas adirecciones, restaurantes, centros comerciales, de todo...

My gosh.. i've waited sooo long? for major improvement on the Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0... and now that it's here, the major improvement is a new Home screen, and features aimed at trying to sell us CONTENT?!! wtf.. There are soo many things they can trully improve on.. heck the nokia PC Suite was faster, and in a lot of ways more efficient in texting .. like when i have to reply to 10 messages, i can outbox each of my reply and then send them all at once.. w/ Ovi suite....

Nokia maps is free for all nokia phones only? on some of the older versions you have to pay for voice navigation like the n95 and the n96 which are great phones the n96 is amazing i have the nokia n97 and its a great phone it has free navigation on it...maps 2.0 is better than maps 3.0 because maps 2.0 is more graphic were as maps 3.0 is not...
